The Sue William Silverman Prize for Creative Nonfiction

The Sue William Silverman Prize for Creative Nonfiction

Creative nonfiction: compelling, groundbreaking memoirs and essay collections that embrace real subjects and true events through literary techniques more commonly associated with fiction or poetry.

The Association of Writers and Writing Programs (AWP) is a nonprofit organization of writers, teachers, colleges, and universities and sponsors the Award Series, an annual competition for the publication of excellent new book-length works. The prizes are supported by the AWP Award Series Endowments. In 2021, the AWP Prize for Creative Nonfiction was endowed in Sue Silverman’s name. The Sue William Silverman Prize for Creative Nonfiction is open to all authors writing original works in English for adult readers.

Winners of the creative nonfiction award receive a $2,500 cash honorarium from AWP and publication by the University of Georgia Press.
