New Georgia Encyclopedia

The University of Georgia Press is a founding partner of the New Georgia Encyclopedia (NGE). Originally launched in 2004 and redesigned in 2013, the NGE is the first state encyclopedia to be conceived and designed exclusively for publication online. This authoritative resource contains original content and helps users understand the rich history and diverse culture of Georgia’s still-unfolding story.

To date, the Press and the NGE have collaborated on two books: The Civil War in Georgia: A New Georgia Encyclopedia Companion and The New Georgia Encyclopedia Companion to Georgia Literature. Both draw heavily on original content from the NGE.

The NGE features 2,300-plus articles and 6,600-plus images. As you browse through UGA Press books on this site, look for “Read More About It” links, which will guide you to some of the NGE’s abundant resources relevant to our books’ topics.
