I hold a PhD in English from UGA, where I specialized in American literature, narrative and aesthetic theory, and creative nonfiction. I am drawn to projects that highlight underrepresented voices, that recast canonical texts, or really any idea thoroughly considered and passionately argued. Before joining the Press, I worked with The Georgia Review, and wish to continue cultivating strong voices and creative storytelling not only in trade but cross-over scholarly works as well. I’m hoping to find more texts that marry thoughtful research with engaging, deeply human narratives.
I also oversee our literary manuscript competitions, including the Cave Canem Poetry Prize, the Flannery O’Connor Award for Short Fiction, the Georgia Poetry Prize, the National Poetry Series, and The Sue William Silverman Prize for Creative Nonfiction. At this time, manuscripts of poetry and short fiction are only considered through these competitions. If you have questions relating to any of these competitions, please direct them my way.
My own work focuses on my home state, Florida, and the intersections of ecology and culture in creating place. Some of my more recent writing, creative and scholarly, can be found in The Georgia Review and Studies in American Humor.
